You always have a choice between FIGHTING and SURRENDERING.

One of the times this most clearly showed up in my life and where I chose to surrender was when I became a mother.

Before that, I would’ve fought until death.

This can happen to anyone, at any given moment in life.

You can fight the changes, hold on to your past life, to the person you were before, to how things were before…

You can think you know what you want or what is better for you.

Or you can embrace the uncertainty and let life change you.

Let go, trust the journey, and see where it takes you.

It’s like coming up to a big river with a huge current.

You’re hungry and you want to get to the other side, because there is an apple tree on the other side.

So you jump in the river and you start swimming.

The current is very strong, the pull is very hard.

You see the apple tree. You want the apple, just one little apple.

You hold on so tightly, you grip so hard, you get hit by branches, you slip on the rocks, the river wants you to go DOWN THERE.

You want to go THAT OTHER WAY.

No matter what you do, the current will always be stronger.

What you don’t know, because you can’t see, is that if you have the courage to let go of all control and your idea of where you think you want to be going, the current will take you to this calm, beautiful place, full of fruit trees, just down the river.

And even if you fight/swim during your whole life and end up finally getting to the other side of the river and getting a bite of that apple…

You might be able to gather up just enough energy to walk down a smooth little path that will take you to that exact same place…

And instead of sitting peacefully and savouring the beauty all around you and being nourished by all of the fruits and the abundance of that place for a lifetime…

You end up staying there just long enough to realize what you have missed, all that time you were fighting instead of surrendering.
